Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun said he will step down following scrutiny over the airplane company's production quality.

The announcement comes amid public and regulatory scrutiny over the quality of Boeing’s planes following a series of recent manufacturing problems, including the door plug blowout on an Alaska Airlines jet in January, which was preceded by two fatal airplane crashes in 2018 and 2019.on Capitol Hill in late January after the Alaska Airlines incident. “We don’t put airplanes in the air that we don’t have 100% confidence in.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Department of Justice are investigating the door plug blowout incident. Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Administration released anthat the business would be spending more cash than previously expected in the first quarter due to lawsuits and production delays.
Steve Mollenkopf will assume Kellner’s position as independent board chairman and will lead the process for choosing the company’s next CEO, Boeing said.
