A former Preston gang member who was caught with class A drugs in his bum crack has told a judge he is tired of prison - and just wants to go to Lytham with his nan.
Ashley Keany, 35, has been in and out of custody since 2007, but claimed he was done with his criminal lifestyle when he appeared at Preston Crown Court on drugs supply charges. In July 2021, the now-35-year-old was arrested for breaking the terms of his release. But as he was take into custody he found to have 16.1g of high purity crack cocaine clenched between his buttocks.
At Preston Crown Court today , Keany's defence barrister Daniel Harman summarised a letter Keany wrote to the judge. He said: "Here I am again, after 20 years of being in and out of prison. It's time to grow up. I just want to go for a day out in Lytham and sit on a bench with my nan." When he was eventually released, Keany breached the terms of his licence, sparking a police appeal which saw his face circulated on social media. When officers found him - and the drugs he was carrying - he was sent straight back to prison.
