The labor movement in Chicago early on was marked by racial tensions and inequalities. Black workers, along with other marginalized groups, often faced exclusion and discrimination in labor unions. However, amid these challenges, glimpses of solidarity and progress emerged.In 1917, the Chicago Federation of Labor, led by John Fitzpatrick, adopted a resolution supporting equal pay for African American workers in the Chicago stockyards.
