A boat and trailer that were reported stolen from a small village in central Vancouver Island was found two months later in a city hundreds of kilometres away.
There were no suspects to the theft at the time, which took place in the 500-block of Industrial Park Place.New information about the boat’s potential location came in, and police obtained a search warrant for a property in Duncan.
One day later, on Aug. 23, the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP worked with the West Shore RCMP to execute the search warrant at the property in the 7000-block of Osborne Bay Road. Once there, police located the stolen boat and trailer and were able to return the items to their rightful owner. “The prompt sharing of information between RCMP investigators from different detachments and reallocation of police resources played a key role in the evolution of this investigation,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alex Bérubé, in a release Thursday.Sign up for the CHEK Now daily email newsletter to get breaking news and the day's top stories sent to your email.Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
