New resolution outlines city co-sponsorship of free event

“ACL Radio’s Blues on the Green – presented by H-E-B is back on thanks to Austin City Council’s approval ofand H-E-B’s increased financial support to keep this iconic tradition and important cultural event open to the public in Zilker Park as planned,” the statement reads.

Austin City Council passed Resolution 23 on Feb. 15, moving to implement city co-sponsorship of Blues on the Green and other free live music events. Council Member Natasha Harper-Madison proposed the resolution, which directs the city to help offset the logistical costs associated with concerts, like retaining permits for sound, security, and parks and recreation access.

After Council approved an amendment from Council Member José “Chito” Vela to allow the free events to sell alcohol, the resolution passed 10-1, with Council Member Mackenzie Kelly recusing herself from the vote. “We continue to talk to partners, sponsors, and others as we plan to bring this event to life this year,” ACL Radio said. “We’ll be back with more info soon.
