Breaking: St. Louis Blues defeat Boston Bruins to win first Stanley Cup title

The Blues had the worst record in the NHL on Jan. 2 before surging in the second half of the season. They defeated the Winnipeg Jets, Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks to reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1970.

St. Louis didn't waste much time getting ahead. After putting pressure on the Bruins' net for much of the first period, Ryan O'Reilly scored his eighth goal of the playoffs late in the period. Minutes later, teammate Alex Pietrangelo scored to give the Blues a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Brayden Schenn and Zach Sanford scored in the third period to seal the win. Matt Grzelcyk broke goaltender Jordan Binnington’s shutout bid with a goal late in the third for Boston.
