Hard-luck Blue Jays right-hander Nate Pearson is being shut down for three to four weeks after suffering a right lat strain earlier this month.

Pearson, who suffered the injury while playing for triple-A Buffalo, will start playing catch after his shutdown period ends. Once considered the top prospect in the Blue Jays system, Pearson has dealt with an assortment of health woes throughout his pro career. The former first-round pick had mononucleosis earlier this year and had to build back up after recovering.Injuries have also taken Pearson out for significant stretches the past three seasons.For his career in the majors, he is 2-1 with a 5.18 ERA in five starts and 12 relief appearances.
