The Florida State product pitched to a 1.31 ERA in 20.2 innings in an abbreviated 2020 season with 25 strikeouts and 12 walks. He logged a 3.81 ERA over 18 starts with the Seminoles in 2019.
The 21-year-old was originally selected by the New York Mets in the 19th round of the 2017 draft out of high school, but elected to go the college route., Van Eyk throws a fastball in the 90-95 mph range, a curveball and a changeup “with sinking action that fools hitters.” On MLB Network, Dan O'Dowd compared him to Ian Kennedy.CJ Van Eyk here for the Blue Jays – looked like a high first-rounder in the preseason this spring.
