The Blue Jays were reportedly interested in both Teoscar Hernandez and Corbin Burnes, but ultimately failed to secure their services. The team's offseason acquisitions remain underwhelming, leaving fans disappointed.
Teoscar Hernandez and Corbin Burnes both signed contracts yesterday. Hernandez agreed to a three-year, $66 million deal with the Dodgers, while Burnes signed a two-year, $60 million contract with the Diamondbacks, with an option for four more years and $150 million. Reports suggest the Blue Jays were interested in both players, as well as Juan Soto earlier in the month. However, neither Hernandez nor Burnes received contracts that significantly exceeded expectations.
Hernandez desired to remain in Los Angeles, where he recently won a championship, and Burnes likely prioritizes living in the city where his family resides. The Blue Jays once again failed to acquire players they clearly wanted and needed. With the majority of top free agents already signed, the remaining options for the Blue Jays are either unsuitable for the roster or present considerable financial risks. A few B-list players, like Nick Pivetta and Jurickson Profar, might be enough for the front office to claim they addressed the roster's concerns this winter. However, the overall grade for the offseason likely remains a C+, which falls short of satisfying the fanbase's expectations
