Justin Turner was a free agent signing this off-season. He’s making $13 million this year, taking Brandon Belt’s spot as DH and occasional first baseman. He’s 39. Belt had a pretty good 2023 season, hitting .254/.369/.490 with 19 home runs. I’m surprised no one signed him this yere. He’s three years younger than Turner. Buck and Dan praised Turner's leadership abilities at the start of the season, much like they did with Belt last year.
With the bat: Both Baseball Reference and FanGraphs have him at a 0.3 WAR. As you know, he started the season well but went through a long, cold patch. By month: A few players went through some virus in May. I don’t know if that was the cause of his poor May, but it is good to see him hitting again. If May hadn’t been so bad, I think we’d be very happy with him. He’s hitting left-handers much better than right-handers . Last year, his split wasn’t as massive, though he did hit lefties better.
