Despite the dramatic and crushing end to the season and the high volume fallout to it, Ross Atkins will return as Blue Jays general manager for 2024.
Team president and CEO Mark Shapiro confirmed Atkins’ return at a season-ending news conference Thursday morning at the Rogers Centre.“Stabillity is a competitive advantage,” Shapiro said, acknowledging that there will be a need to improve. “I need to get better, Ross needs to get better,” Shapiro said. “We’re not ever looking to assign blame.”The team’s top executive also addressed Atkins’ apparent criticisms of his own press conference in which he appeared to transfer blame for the early exit of Game 2 in the AL wildcard series to manager John Schneider.
Shapiro said he has been in touch with both Schneider and Atkins since that press conference was held on Saturday and that there is no issue between the two.Postmedia is committed to maintaining a lively but civil forum for discussion and encourage all readers to share their views on our articles.
