Earlier in the day, Schneider addressed his team inside the clubhouse. The opening of camp speech is a tradition of sorts across MLB, and this was the first time the 43-year-old was tasked with it on the big-league side after he took over for former manager Charlie Montoyo last July.

So, it’s more like, look around and it’s time for us to take the next step.”Another new wrinkle this spring is that pitchers will be able to call their own pitches if they so desire. Last year, only catchers had the ability to call for a certain pitch using Pitchcom devices on their wrists, but now the guys on the mound can too.
