The Blue Jackets acquired defenseman Ivan Provorov in a three-team trade involving the Philadelphia Flyers and the Los Angeles Kings.
Here is how the 26-year-old defenseman made his way to Central Ohio.
The Flyers traded Provorov and Hayden Hodgson to the Lings in exchange for Cal Peterson, Sean Walker, Helge Grans and L.A.’s 2024 second-round pick. Columbus then acquired Connauton from Philly in exchange for a 2023 first-round pick and a conditional second-round pick in either the 2024 or 2025 NHL Draft, according to the Jackets. The 6-1 blue liner has registered 65 goals and 152 assists for 217 points with 196 penalty minutes in 532 career games with the Flyers.
Provorov is also tied for 17th in the league in goals and 40th in points among NHL defensemen since the 2016-17 season. That year he was first in the league.“Improving our blue line has been a priority for us and acquiring Ivan gives us an established left-shot defenseman who is still a young player with his best seasons in front of him,” said Club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen in the press release.
