Two shootings and double stabbing in bloody night of violence across Greater Manchester
Two men were taken to hospital after a horrific double stabbing and gunmen opened fire on two streets in a night of violence in Greater Manchester. In the most serious of the incidents an armed gang attacked two men in a car in Salford last night, sparking a huge police presence.
Both remain in hospital in a stable condition. One of the injured men was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs and remains in custody. Around two and half hours later armed police swooped on Halliwell Street in nearby Cheetham Hill after reports that a gunman had opened fire. No-one has been reported injured, but police say they found 'evidence of what is believed to have been a firearm discharge'.
Following investigations and after forensic officers scoured the area, the force issued an update this afternoon. It has now been confirmed that a firearm was discharged.
