Two men arrested in the area of Toronto's Cherry Beach after a fight menaced a number of passersby with running chainsaws before they were captured by police, an eyewitness says.
A jogger who wishes to remain anonymous told CTV News Toronto she was running in the area of Cherry Street, between the beach and Regata Road on Sunday morning, when she says she saw a young boy on rollerblades dart off of the path in front of her.
She then saw two men about two car lengths in front of her, with blood coating their heads, arms and torsos on the path in front of her, reaching for chainsaws.A short time later she peeked to find both men approaching her, revving the engines on their chainsaws.Const. Caroline de Kloet said that two males were involved in a fight with a large group of other people "and suffered injuries."Police say they arrested both men upon arrival and charged them "accordingly.
"There is a protest that seems to happen weekly at Queen’s Park and it seems, according to the information that has been given to me, a number of the very same people then end up at Cherry Beach having some sort of a gathering," he said during a news conference at city hall on Monday afternoon. "Clearly an incident like this would cause us to want to keep a very careful eye on both these gatherings themselves, because gatherings beyond certain numbers and at certain times... are regulated at this moment in time and also ones that scare or otherwise disturb people, we want to keep an eye on as well."
