Marvel Comics may have finally explained why vampires haven't been seen in the MCU. Blade: Vampire Nation 1 reveals vampires used to be way rarer, with a rigid power structure that matches how the movies have referred to them.
This article contains spoilers for Blade: Vampire Nation #1!In Blade's latest outing, Marvel Comics has given a potential explanation for why vampires haven't been seen in the MCU yet. Vampires have technically been part of the MCU for years; they were name-dropped in Thor: Ragnarok, and a single line of dialogue in Loki suggested the Time Variance Authority considered them as much trouble as Titans like Thanos.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY This is particularly remarkable given that, in the comics, vampires are actually high-profile enough to have their own nation. Ruled by Dracula, the vampire kingdom flourishes in the area around Chernobyl, taking advantage of a radioactive environment where humans could not survive. The United Nations have agreed to recognize the vampire nation's sovereignty on one condition - Blade now lives there as sheriff.
Vampires Could Be The MCU's Apex Predators The original Blade films established a hierarchy of vampires, with major vampires commanding entire legions of lesser creatures. Although vampires were power-hungry, they were perfectly capable of coexisting in great numbers, with Blade working against what amounted to an entire vampire civilization.
This would mean the MCU's Blade reboot - which will star Mahershala Ali - would be very different from Wesley Snipes' tenure as the hero. Rather than a vampire slayer kicking down doors and dusting entire crowds, this version of Blade could be a true hunter; someone who has to stalk his prey even as they attempt to use all their influence to kill him.
