Black Widow’s SuperBowl spot shows the dark flip side of Scarlett Johansson's super spy
’s Natasha Romanoff begins the Super Bowl spot for Marvel’sand as we see glimpses of the super spy's earlier dysfunctional family of Russian agents and operatives, it's clear this movie will stand as a kind of photo negative of the life she had in the U.S. working with the super-powered friends we already know.
This is Natasha returning to the place that beat her up and spit her out, and it's a disturbing funhouse mirror of her life since. We catch a glimpse of the new masked villain, Taskmaster, stomping on his shield to make it flip up and attach to his arm like Captain America. Suddenly, the contrast could not be more, uh, let's say ... stark. This is the dark side of Black Widow's search for family, and it stands as the reverse of everything we know about her.
We actually know very little about Taskmaster, including who is behind the mask. Apparently, it's one of the secrets directorwhen the good guys were torn apart, andfocuses on the title character's relationship with “sister” Yelena Belova , who is a fellow graduate of the dehumanizing Red Room training program, rival agent Melina Vostokoff a.k.a. The Iron Maiden, and's tattooed Red Guardian, who was once a kind of father figure for the whole Motherland.
It only last 30 seconds, but it already has an inspiring motto: "At some point we all have to choose between what the world wants you to be, and who you are."
