The Black Cultural Society of P.E.I. is hosting a series of events during Black History Month to celebrate the Island's Black communities. FileCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Black Cultural Society of P.E.I. is hosting a series of events during Black History Month in February to celebrate the cultures that make up the Island’s Black community.

Sankofa means to look back into the past to guide the future in Twi. San means to return, ko means go, and fa means to look or seek. “We are working with community members to talk about mental health and wellbeing, fostering skills and talents, excelling in education, supporting local black businesses and artists and advocating for representation in P.E.I,” said Smith.

The society is also bringing educational sessions to schools throughout the month to promote an understanding of the Black community’s culture and history.
