A binman has warned people to avoid making a common mistake during school holidays that could leave them with mounting rubbish outside their property. A simple error could cost people at Easter
We all have to put the household waste out for collection, but simple errors can prevent it from being picked up. Little you may know, there are numerous regulations you need to follow when putting rubbish out for collection, and many of them are more significant than you may realise.
Fortunately, some expert advice is available to inform people what they need to know, and one binman highlighted a common issue that occurs during the Easter holidays. The refuse collector, known as The No1 Binman on TikTok, said the mistake needs to be avoided at all costs if you don't want to be left with piles of smelly waste. It's not the first useful piece of advice he's shared either. Just months ago, he noted that placing a certain item in the wrong bin can prevent rubbish being collected too. In a candid clip shared online, he said: "Half-term has started already and you can tell. The amount of people who have forgotten to put their bins out is incredible. "A little change in a daily routine of not taking the kids to school, you forget to put your bin out. We do mark it down as 'not out'. "So there's no calling up later saying 'you missed my bin'. No, you forgot to put it out. Not my fault. "We come around exactly the same time every single week. Just because it's half-term, nothing changes, so please make sure you put your bin out. "If you're going to tell us we missed your bin when we didn't miss your bin, please just run it down the road to us and we'll tip it and then you can just take it back. There is no point in running down the road telling us. "We're not going to drive back. We've already done that road. Warning - half-term, nothing changes. We still collect your bins." It turns out this is a widespread mistake people make when the children aren't in school, so it's well worth taking note of the advice. After all, nobody wants to be left with a growing pile of rubbish outside their home. What you need to know You may not realise that bin collectors can refuse to take your rubbish for a number of reasons. This can occur if it breaches council guidelines, such as being too heavy, containing contaminated recycling , if you've overfilled the bin or if you leave "side waste" . Contaminated recycling is one of the most common reasons this occurs. However, waste also needs to be left out correctly too. Bins must be put out on the correct day, at the designated collection point and must also face the right way. As a result, you could be making several errors that may catch you out. Many bin collectors also log when your bin is not left out for collection. They record the address as a "missed collection" if bins are not present, so they do keep track of these things. It's worth bearing in mind that some councils may change their collection days over the bank holiday period. Be sure to check your local council's website to find out whether this affects you over Easter.
