Bill would let people ban themselves from buying booze at Pa. liquor stores
Pa. Rep. Matt Dowling, R-Fayette/Somerset counties, introduced legislation that would allow individuals to voluntarily exclude themselves from being able to buy alcoholic beverages at state stores and any state-licensed liquor establishments. Screenshot from Pa.
“This is a very personal piece of legislation for me,” said Dowling, who is facing pending DUI charges from the crash that prompted him to voluntarily checked himself into treatment for his addiction. “I realized one of my triggers was simply passing the new wine and spirits shop we have in my hometown. So I got to thinking what if I went in, I wouldn’t be allowed to purchase.
Prior to his June 4 crash in which no one was injured, Dowling said he was at a point where had such a list existed his wife probably would have asked him to put himself on it “and I know that I would have done that and it would have saved me from myself.”
