Law that would set nurse staffing levels at Pa. hospitals could get key vote

HB 106 has the support of unions and organizations representing Pennsylvania nurses. Supporters expect the bill to receive a vote during a House health committee meeting scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Nurses argue a shortage of bedside nurses is putting patients at risk in Pennsylvania. However, they contend the situation doesn’t spring from not enough nurses, but from a shortage of nurses who are willing to work in hospitals because of low staffing that burns them out and prevents them from giving proper care.
