Talk show host Bill Maher scoffed at radio host Charlamagne tha God's criticisms of Caitlin Clark's popularity in the WNBA.
Clark is in her first season with the Indiana Fever and has been credited with boosting attendance at WNBA games. Meanwhile, some fans lament all the attention she has received over 2023 NCAA champion Angel Reese, who is also in her rookie season. During Friday’s episode of, Charlamagne expressed his hope that the attention on Clark could be shared with other players, such as Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson.
“A’ja Wilson was the biggest thing when she came out of South Carolina,” Charlamagne said. “And she didn’t get all of that.”“No, I’m not saying it’s racist,” Charlamagne said. “I think sometimes when, you know, black women say certain things, we should listen, especially her because I’m not in her shoes.”
“But why was Serena Williams such a big star?” Maher pushed. “Because people like that. They didn’t not watch her because she was black, right?”“I don’t know,” the radio host admitted.CHARLAMAGNE THA GOD: "A'ja Wilson was the biggest thing when she came out of South Carolina … and she didn't get all of that."Wilson is the leading scorer in the WNBA. She will also play for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Meanwhile, Clark was the No. 1 WNBA draft pick earlier this year. She will not be competing on Team USA.
