The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has vowed to spend $7 billion over the next four years on grants to help address hunger, disease, gender inequality and poverty in Africa.
Gates made the announcement during his first trip to Africa since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, during which he visited agricultural research institutes and farms along with health care centers and medical researchers to learn how the foundation’s grants can help, the Gates Foundation.
The Covid-19 pandemic caused decades worth of progress in fighting against disease like HIV and Aids, malaria and tuberculosis in the region, according to the foundation, and also significantly affected vaccine efforts.
