“He really was as much the face and voice of Telemiracle as anybody that’s been involved in the telethon over its history.”Over the years, the telethon’s cast often looked to McGrath for how best to connect with people, even after he had retired, Straker added. “People just really enjoyed meeting him — he was everything that you expected him to be from TV, but even moreso behind the scenes,” Keis said.
Sesame Workshop tweeted Sunday that it “mourns the passing of Bob McGrath, a beloved member of the Sesame Street family for over 50 years.” McGrath was a founding cast member of “Sesame Street” when the show premiered in 1969, playing friendly neighbour Bob Johnson.
