Differences in responses to the indictment of former President Donald Trump were stark on Friday, with Sen. Mitt Romney casting blame on Trump and Sen. Mike Lee saying the indictment “echoes despotism” by the Biden administration. bmullahy2news

“Like all Americans, Mr. Trump is entitled to the presumption of innocence,“ Romney said, adding the Justice Department seemed to exercise “due care,” and gave Trump time to avoid charges.

“Mr. Trump brought these charges upon himself by not only taking classified documents,” Romney said, “but by refusing to simply return them when given numerous opportunities to do so.

“Such an act of absolute disrespect echoes despotism, making it fundamentally at odds, with American democratic values,” said Lee of the indictment.“This is a sad day for any American who believes in the rule of law,“ Stewart said. “The National Archives have confirmed that every single president since Ronald Reagan has mishandled classified materials.”
