US president fears ‘great suffering’ in the event of an invasion as Russia denies there are any plans for an attack
Joe Biden on Saturday night warnedthat the US would “impose swift and severe costs on Russia” if his forces invaded Ukraine. In a phone call that lasted more than an hour, the US president said an invasion would “produce widespread human suffering and diminish Russia’s standing”.UkraineIt brought “no fundamental change” to the worsening crisis, according to a senior US official briefing reporters afterwards.
