President Joe Biden exercised executive privilege to block the release of video and audio recordings from his discussions with special counsel Robert K. Hur, following a request from Attorney General Merrick Garland.into Biden’s handling of classified materials. Garland could've been held in contempt of Congress for not releasing the recordings but was protected by Biden’s executive privilege.
The White House advised House Oversight and Judiciary Committee Chairmen James Comer and Jim Jordan of Biden’s decision regarding the tapes of his interview with Hur and his memoir ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer, which have been subpoenaed by Comer and Jordan’s panels, through a letter from White House Counsel Edward Siskel, obtained by the Washington Examiner.
President Biden has asserted executive privilege over the audio and video recordings from the special counsel investigation into his handling of classified materials and will refuse congressional requests to hand them over, the White House and the Justice Department said in separate letters to House Republican leaders Thursday.
