Amid low approval ratings and growing economic concerns, President JoeBiden’s SOTU2022 address Tuesday night drew 32.3 million viewers across the major broadcast networks.
Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox saw an average of 4.6 million viewers. Fox News led with 6.9 million viewers while the Fox network trailed at 1.8 million viewers, according to Deadline.Biden’s speech drew more viewers than his 2021 Joint Address to Congress that netted 27 million viewers. However, it remained much lower than Trump’s 2020 State of the Union address with 46.8 million viewers.
As of Tuesday, Biden’s approval ratings were around 41%, with a disapproval rating of 54% — the second-lowest approval rating on record.State of the Union addresses traditionally average an improvement of 0.4 points. Some have seen huge positive swings, such as former President Bill Clinton in 1998 with his approval rating jumping from 59% to 69%. In 2020, former President Donald Trump saw a 2-point improvement in approval ratings following his State of the Union address.
