I wish I had some wonderful words to share with you that would solve all of these crises, but I don't. They are real, they are hurtful, and this world is coming down very heavy on the younger generation.
The good news is — and it is very, very good news — that ideologically, progressives are winning the war. And that is that the younger generation understands that we need to make fundamental changes in the way our economy, health care, and energy systems are working. As the young people in this country fully understand, we need to move toward a government whose principles are based on justice, not greed.
We're already in that struggle, and that struggle must continue. We are winning that ideological battle, and that is significant. We got to keep fighting.: I don't want to get too utopian about it, but what gives you hope about that? What do you hope for the future?The young people are the future of this country. The ideas that they embrace, if people are politically involved, become the future of America.
Young people understand, and more and more Americans of all ages understand, for example, that we cannot continue to maintain a health care system in which our health care is tied to our jobs., whether you're unemployed, whether you have a great job or you have a sh*tty job. We're winning that fight. People are seeing the fragility and stupidity of a health care system tied to employment, with so many people losing their jobs.
What I can't do is spend as much time as I would like with my grandchildren. They live a few blocks away, and I'd love to play ball with them, but I'm not able to do that right now. So we're doing the best, reaching out, because everybody else is on the phone or on the other technologies with family and friends.
