Ben Brown has an international medal in his first year competing in a new sport. The 34-year-old Cambridge resident finished second in the VL1 men’s 200-metre race at the Pan American Canoe Sprint Championships Aug. 11 at Lake Banook in Dartmouth.
Brown, who is heading to Shawinigan, Que., for nationals Aug. 23-28, said his two international experiences in Dartmouth this month showed him a lot about the sport’s popularity given the crowds attracted to watch the races.
“What I have learned over this whole year hard to fathom,” he said. “I am really proud of what I have done, I am not satisfied. There’s lots more to build on.” “We’re keeping it very informal,” said Re/Max Advantage owner Donna Conrad, who is helping to organize the event.
