Ben Affleck's character in Gone Girl was almost played by another big star. The 2014 film, which was directed by David Fincher and adapted by Gillian Flynn based on her best-selling novel of the same name, starred Affleck as a Missouri man named Nick Dunne. He becomes the prime suspect in the sudden disappearance of his wife, Amy , and is under intense media scrutiny. Affleck's performance, which drew on his own experience with the media, was praised as one of the best of his career.
Responding to a fan question, Hamm confirmed that he was originally going to play the role of Dunne in Gone Girl, though he had to drop out due to his role as Don Draper in Mad Men.
