Behold, a Shadow and Bone Season 1 Recap Ahead of Season 2
. When Mal is tasked to cross the Shadow Fold — a dangerous, dense region of darkness filled with human flesh-eating monsters named volcra — Alina destroys the First Army’s records of the western coastline so that she and her unit will be stationed on the same expedition as Mal.But when their skiff is attacked by volcra and Mal’s suddenly in one’s clutches, a massive beacon of light emits from Alina. It’s revealed that she’s a Sun Summoner, a Grisha with the power to eradicate the Shadow Fold.
Alina is brought to the King to demonstrate her Sun Summoner abilities. He urges Kirigan to train her quickly, so the Fold can be destroyed and the region can be reunited. She’s soon brought to elder teacher Baghra to sharpen her prowess, and throughout her time at Little Palace, Alina writes to Mal, her “true north.” At camp, Mal writes to Alina, his “true north.” But their letters never reach each other.
