Conservation officers managed to tranquilize and relocate animal after it ran up a tree in Memorial Park
We’re not sure if it’s because he had trouble finding a place to park, but a black bear generated some excitement in downtown Sudbury on Saturday after it wandered into the core of the city and spent some time running around.
A Sudbury.com reader spotted the animal on Elm Street near CTS Canadian Career College. The reader said the animal exhibited some strange behaviour as they watched it run into a wall and then a door, slamming its head both times. Greater Sudbury Police spokesperson Sarah Kaelas confirmed police were called about the bear just before 5 p.m on June 17. At that point, the animal was near the bus depot.
Police contact the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, which dispatched conservation officers. GSPS said the bear was finally located in Memorial Park, where it had scaled a tree. The animal was tranquilized and relocated without incident.
