Beachwood City Council candidates did not actually debate each other during an event billed as a debate and held Thursday (Sept. 21) at Beachwood High School, but they politely expressed their views on a number of the city's most pressing topics.
The seven candidates present behaved in a polite and mannerly fashion, stating their stances on the various topics and not mentioning or criticizing candidates from the other slate.
The first question dealt with the $3.5 million council approved this year for its coming new play area next to the Beachwood Family Aquatic Center. Burkons and Taylor voted against the expenditure, and Shoykhet in favor. Candidates were asked their position on the subject. Darvin, Burkons and Tindel believed that a new playground is a good thing, but not at a $3.5-million cost.
