The Prince George Spruce Kings have 12 players back from last year’s team that went to the BCHL final — and they apparently learned a few things on that pressure-packed journey.The Spruce Kings, who needed 14 games to get through the first two rounds a year ago, are in the third round this year after just nine.

“Playoffs are a difficult time,” said Prince George general manager Mike Hawes, whose team played 24 games in the post-season last spring, with their elimination coming after five games in the league final against the Wenatchee Wild. Oddly enough, Chilliwack lost in seven games to the Spruce Kings in the first round last year and came back to win the RBC Cup national Junior A championship weeks later as the tournament hosts.
