The BCHL has long been a favourite recruiting ground of the NCAA. According to the news release, this past season there were “411 BCHL alumni on NCAA rosters, making up nearly a quarter of all Div. I college.”

BCHL players haven’t been invited to Hockey Canada events such as the World Junior A Hockey Challenge tournament since leaving the CJHL. That would, undoubtedly, continue with BCHL leaving Hockey Canada outright. There will still be roster minimums for B.C.-born players, but that number wasn’t mentioned in the release.Article content

It will also have to source out its own insurance since the league won’t be under Hockey Canada’s any longer.
