The BC SPCA says it is in need of donations of food for specialized diets at its pet food banks as it sees a 'huge increase in demand.'
Prudence's owner Jo uses the BC SPCA pet food bank for dry food so she can use her budget to buy wet food for her cat. Pets often require a specialized diet to manage health conditions or for allergies, the SPCA notes.
“It certainly has had an impact on our budget. We simply don’t get enough food donations to meet the demand.” Dr. Rachel Groarke, the BC SPCA’s manager of shelter medicine, says veterinarians will recommend these diets to help manage health conditions like kidney disease or urinary problems.
