THE BBC has been accused of failing to tackle a negative culture towards black staff afterFor the second year in a row, there was not a single black person was employed in a leadership role in the BBC’s production sector, the BBC’s latest Equality and Diversity report revealed.
He said: “There is some evidence that all-white middle management still recruits in its image. It presents what is, for many BAME staff, a very visible glass ceiling. Prof Barling added: “The BBC has increasingly recruited more diverse talent, but the culture is insufficiently inclusive to retain those staff.
The annual report for 2022 also discloses that only 95 black individuals were working within the News and Affairs department. This means out of 2,840 news staff members, black people only made up 3.3% In the Annual Report and accounts 2021/22 the BBC stated it strived to be ‘representative of the country’ behind the scenes but also on-screen.
