The resident tried to fight the fire in their home before Contra Costa County Fire arrived.

A house fire in the Bay Point neighborhood of East Contra Costa County sent one resident to the hospital for burns and smoke inhalation.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a two-alarm fire at 108 Gibson Ave. at 3:22 p.m. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but CON fire PIO Tracie Dutter said it started in an upstairs bedroom. Two residents in the home tried to put out the fire, and one was sent to a nearby hospital for burns and smoke inhalation.
