Gilroy softball player Averi Peters is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week for March 11-16.
In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Peters finished with 38.52% of the votes. Liberty softball player Jewel Cooper was second at 27.69%. Peters helped Gilroy win its fifth consecutive game in thrilling fashion. Her walk-off single up the middle lifted the Mustangs to a 6-5 victory over Leigh.
