Arroyo volleyball player Kyle McCarthy is the Bay Area News Group’s boys high school athlete of the week for March 14-20 after narrowly edging Northgate baseball player Matt Campopiano in voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
McCarthy finished with 29.67% of the vote to Campopiano’s 27.14% . De La Salle baseball player Tanner Griffith took third.McCarthy, a junior, finished with a team-high 11 kills as Arroyo defeated Alameda 27-25, 25-13, 26-24 in West Alameda County Conference play. He had a .500 hitting percentage and a 55.0% kill percentage in the match as Arroyo improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the league.
