Police uncovered text messages suggesting the defendant and the teen girl were setting up men to be robbed, in addition to the sex trafficking.

OAKLAND — A Bay Area man is set to be released from jail next month as part of a plea deal with Alameda County prosecutors to dismiss human trafficking charges against him in favor of a pimping conviction.

Jimmy Mack Ray, 24, pleaded no contest last year to a single count of pimping a teen girl, and in exchange was given a year in county jail and two years probation, court records show. With credit for time served, he is set to be released from jail March 20, records show. Ray was charged in January 2022 with one count of human trafficking a minor. The minor in question, a teen girl, was interviewed in August 2021 by undercover officers out looking for prostitutes on the 1700 block of East 15th Street in Oakland, authorities said.

From her phone, investigators found evidence she was being trafficked and texts suggesting she and Ray were setting up “dates” to be robbed, according to police. In another text stream, the girl allegedly asked to be picked up at 2:45 a.m. on morning because she was cold, but Ray allegedly told her she needed to remain outside until 3 a.m., court records show.
