Kinch hopes to focus his efforts on his other Bay Area businesses.
“Manresa has essentially been my whole life for the past 20 years,” Kinch wrote on Instagram. “And like all passion projects, it has been more challenging and more rewarding than I could have imagined.”
Partner Jenny Yun is expected to take over the reins on Jan. 1, 2021, in Kinch’s absence, according to anshared by the restaurant. Moreover, the post suggested that Kinch may continue to collaborate with Manresa in some capacity. SFGATE reached out for comment but did not hear back by publication. The chef-owner told Bloomberg that he worries about the future of fine dining restaurants. Kinch believes fine dining establishments are headed in the direction of high-end counter restaurants with tasting menus starting at $450 per person, Bloomberg reports. In addition to a price hike, Kinch said that he anticipates that fine dining restaurants will continue to be more exclusive.
“As the wage gap continues to increase, all this democratization that’s gone on in last 20 years,” Kinch told Bloomberg.
