RIO DE JANEIRO: Chinese President Xi Jinping announced a raft of measures designed to support the 'Global South' at a gathering of leaders of the Group of 20 (G20) major economies in Rio de Janeiro, China's state television CCTV reported on Monday (Nov 18).
KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Commission of Inquiry report on the handling of sovereignty issues surrounding Batu Puteh , Middle Rocks and South Ledge will be tabled during the current parliamentary session, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said .
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said the report, completed on July 31, was presented to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia on Aug 12 and submitted to the Cabinet on Aug 28. “The Cabinet has agreed for the report to be tabled and for the Commission’s recommendations to be debated in Parliament,” she said in a parliamentary written reply Tuesday .The RCI was convened to examine the handling of Malaysia’s sovereignty over Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks, and South Ledge, territories located in the eastern entrance of the Straits of Singapore.
The dispute, involving Malaysia and Singapore, has been a longstanding issue with significant implications for national sovereignty and maritime boundaries. The RCI was tasked with investigating the management and decision-making processes surrounding the Batu Puteh case, including Malaysia’s decision to withdraw its review application at the International Court of Justice in 2018.Driver arrested over lethal hit-and-run on Bukit Jalil highway
