Barry Keoghan reflects on the rumors that he was going to play Feyd-Rautha in Dune 2 and what it feels like to lose a role like that. 'I’m a big fan of “Dune,” and it would have been nice to be part of it... But it wasn't for me.'

Barry Keoghan reflects on losing Feyd-Rautha role, after rumors of the Irish star appearing in Denis Villeneuve's operatic sci-fi sequel Dune: Part 2 were put to bed by the casting of Elvis star Austin Butler. Keoghan has grown from strength to strength in his acting career over the past decade, appearing in both hard-hitting independent dramas like Calm with Horses and '71 and mainstream blockbusters like the MCU's Eternals and DC's The Batman.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY After the critical and commercial success of Denis Villeneuve's opening adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune, Keoghan was rumored to be pushing further into the world of cinematic blockbusters with a role as the cruel and calculated Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen for the sequel in Dune: Part 2.

Ah, yeah, I really enjoyed that process. Look, I’m a big fan of “Dune,” and it would have been nice to be part of it. I’m a big fan of Timothée [Chalamet, the star of the franchise] as well. But it wasn’t for me. You have to accept that sometimes. Sometimes it’s not for you. Barry Keoghan Would Have Been A Formidable Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen Evidently, being a fan of the material doesn't always mean guaranteed success for an actor when being considered for a new role, and Keoghan missing out on Feyd-Rautha does immediately spark questions about just how menacing a presence Austin Butler is likely to be in the role.

A significant performance will have to be in store from Butler if it is to match the expected levels of terror that Keoghan has proven he can produce. Though the American star has also recently showcased his adaptability, range, and commitment in the titular role of Elvis, there's certainly no reason to suggest we haven't only just witnessed the beginning of what Butler can offer.
