BARRINGTON, N.S. — July 3 has been set as the next court date for the 22-year-old Villagedale, Shelburne County man who is facing three charges under theDalton Clark Stewart was charged by the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Renewables with three offences under the Forests Act on Jan. 17.

Stewart’s lawyer Phil Star had entered not guilty pleas on behalf of his client on March 20. Called the largest wildfire in Nova Scotia history, the Barrington Lake wildfire began on May 26, 2023, and burned 23,379 hectares. It was declared under control on June 13 and extinguished on July 26. The fire damaged or destroyed more than 100 homes and buildings. In the Municipality of Shelburne, 20 primary homes and six secondary homes were destroyed and another 56 were damaged.
