The strangulation was so brutal it broke her thyroid cartilage. She was left dead in the bathtub as her two-year-old son fended for himself across 10 days in 2017. He ate cereal off the floor in an apartment that smelled like death. In the videotaped police interview, the woman said her neck hurt for days and it felt like she’d been hit by a truck.The hallway attack was captured on security video and Barkhadle — on probation at the time — was arrested by Ottawa police weeks later at a public-housing project in the west end.Article content
