Instagram is great for many things: recipe ideas, pet photos, catching up with your college roommate’s ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend’s cousin as she travels through Greece. Where it really shines, though, is in allowing us all to take a voyeuristic glimpse at what an ideal relationship looks like., was true to form on Friday, commemorating his wife Michelle’s 56th birthday by posting an adorable series of photo booth shots of the couple.
“In every scene, you are my star, @MichelleObama! Happy birthday, baby!” he wrote in the Instagram caption, putting the cherry on the “pure love” sundae. What’s really sweet about the pictures is that they appear to have been taken relatively recently, implying that Barack and Michelle are still carefree enough to canoodle in a photo booth like a couple of NYU undergrads, tipsy on PBRs and ready to tell the world they’re in love.
It’s unknown whether former first daughters Sasha and Malia are embarrassed by their parents’ PDA—like any children might be, no matter who their parents—but all this Instagram post does is remind me that I suffer from a tragic, terminal case of not being married to Barack Obama. If he has to be a supportive and enthusiastic husband to anyone else, at least it’s Michelle, who deserves only the best.
