Thousands of Canadians have weighed in on a CRTC proceeding into banning Fox News from Canadian TV, and most appear to be in favour of ban.
While the Egale Canada complaint was focused on comments Carlson made during a specific segment, most submissions looked at Fox more generally. The U.S. network spreads “misinformation as well as deliberately seeks to incite hatred against LGBTQ people,” another said.
If the CRTC bans Fox News, the channel will be taken out of cable packages and customers won’t be able to subscribe to it through their TV providers. The decision would not affect Canadians’ ability to access Fox News on the internet. In its submission to the CRTC, the Canadian Anti-Hate Network said the Carlson segment included “at least four indicia of unlawful hate propaganda targeting the trans community.”
“Such abusive content clearly exposes women and gender-diverse people, and particularly Black youth, 2SLGBTQIA people, newcomers and migrants, to hatred and contempt,” it said.
