The group had originally planned to fly the blimp, one of several versions of an inflatable caricature of Trump dressed in a diaper and holding a cell phone, to protest the"militarization of July 4." Activists have used the blimp to protest the president at various events around the country and the world. The group plans to bring the blimp along to the protest anyway.
Michael Litterst, the National Park Service Chief of Communications, told USA TODAY in an email that"The National Park Service has issued a permit to Tighe Barry to hold a First Amendment demonstration on the National Mall on July 4 that includes the inflation of a “Baby Trump” balloon. The permit spells out the specific conditions under which the event will take place to ensure public safety and the protection of park resources.
In an interview with British tabloid The Sun last year, Trump said that the blimps made him feel"unwelcome."
